Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Mendham Township Reassessment Process

A public information meeting has been scheduled on the Township Reassessment for Monday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Township Municipal Building.  The featured speakers will be Township Assessor, Scott Holzhauer and Glen Sherman, the project manager from Appraisal Systems, Inc.

The objective of the meeting is to inform and help residents of the Township better understand the reassessment process and how they can participate in the process.  The speakers will provide a brief overview of the process, and then will address questions residents may have about the reassessment.

On July 23, 2009, the Morris County Board of Taxation approved the application for Reassessment that was submitted on behalf of Mendham Township by Township Assessor, Scott Holzhauer.  The Reassessment process will be conducted much like a Revaluation, with the goal of calibrating the tax burden equitably within the Township by appraising each property in accordance with its true market value.  The Township felt such action was necessary, even though a full scale revaluation was completed in 2004, in order to adjust property assessments for the drastic changes that have occurred in the real estate market within the past year.  The process will be conducted by the Township Assessor with the assistance of a revaluation company, Appraisal Systems, inc. to be finalized for the new assessments to become effective for the 2010 tax year.

The presentation will focus on the following points:

 ·         The process and procedures for conducting the reassessment.  This would include discussion of timelines, procedures, public participation, etc.

·         The goal of the process with emphasis on how the new assessments will be established.

·         Frequently asked questions about the process and what residents should expect when the process is complete.

For more information about the meeting please contact Township Administrator, Stephen Mountain at (973) 543-4555
