Odd-Even Rationing of Fuel To Expire This Evening

Release Date: November 13, 2012

Christie Administration Announces Reinstatement of Pre-Sandy Fueling Practices at 6:00 A.M. Tuesday

Odd-Even Rationing, Exclusive Fueling for Medical Personnel to Conclude
Executive Order No. 114
Governor Chris Christie today announced that, with the progress made in power restoration and fuel delivery efforts, New Jersey will return to pre-Sandy fueling practices for gas stations, medical professionals, and first responders.  Effective 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, odd-even rationing will conclude in the 12 counties previously affected, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren. Also effective at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, medical personnel will return to purchasing at traditional fuel retailers, rather than at specialized Department of Transportation locations. First responders will be permitted to continue fueling at these locations, until otherwise noticed.

“The odd-even fuel rationing system was successful over the past 10 days, creating order and easing customer lines at our gas stations and helping reduce additional anxiety of New Jerseyans through a difficult period,” said Governor Christie. “This would not have been possible without the great work and efforts of first responders, private businesses, state and local governmental leaders, and all citizens of New Jersey. I thank them for that work and our ability to return to pre-Sandy fueling practices, another important step in returning to normalcy in the aftermath of the storm.”

Odd-even fueling restrictions, provided for in Executive Order 108, had been in place since noon on November 3, 2012.
