For Immediate Release:

SOUTHEAST MORRIS COUNTY MUNICIPAL UTILITIES AUTHORITY

PWS NJ #1424001

2018 WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

(Cedar Knolls, NJ) ? In October 2018, The Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (Authority) awarded a $2,685,739 contract to Reivax Contracting of Newark, New Jersey. The Authority’s Engineering Division staff will conduct construction administration services for this work. The project will address the 2018 Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) as summarized below. The Authority appreciates our community’s support as we complete this important project.

Investment in these improvements is a necessary part of maintaining a reliable water system and is also a required component of the recently enacted Water Quality Accountability Act, P.L. 2017, c. 133; which established new requirements for public water systems including water main renewals, asset management, and hydrant and valve maintenance.

The 2018 WSIP project will be completed over a period of approximately 18 months, or between December 2018 and May 2020, and includes the following improvements:

• Replacement of 29 fire hydrants and 13 valves located throughout the service area.

• Installation of 25 new sampling stations at key locations to provide for improved monitoring of water quality.

• Installation of six (6) automatic flushing devices to improve water age at targeted locations.

• Construction of chlorine contact time improvements at the Lidgerwood Well (Town of Morristown), Turnbull Well (Town of Morristown) and Wing Well (Hanover Township).

850 linear foot extension on Jim Fear Drive to connect to Parker Drive

Township of Morris  1,240 linear feet on Old Glen Road

570 linear feet on Van Beuren Road

1,125 linear feet on James Street

Town of Morristown  1,350 linear feet on Conklin Avenue

The Authority’s current Capital Improvement Program estimates an approximate $2.1 million annual investment in future main renewal projects over the course of the next six (6) years.
