More than 216,000 individuals who live, work, and study in New Jersey have received a Pfizer booster dose or third dose. Additionally, 55,944 individuals have received a Moderna third dose.

As a reminder - you are currently eligible to receive a booster dose if it has been at least six months since you received your second dose of the Pfizer vaccine and you are:

An individual 18 or older and work or live in a high-risk setting.
An individual 18 - 64 with certain health conditions.
An individual 65 or older.
A long-term care resident.

This past Thursday, a federal advisory committee to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted to recommend Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine booster dose, which consists of a 50-microgram dose - half the normal dose of the shot, to the same groups authorized to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 booster. The same panel voted unanimously on Friday to recommend Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, in addition to exploring the idea of a “mix and match” approach with the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine and the mRNA vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna. The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are expected to make final recommendations in the coming days and additional booster doses could be offered by early next week.

As the holidays approach and as more and more people become eligible for booster doses, the state is expanding its vaccination capacity. No proof of a medical condition or a note from a medical provider is required for a third dose or booster dose.
