Mother's Day Appreciation Parade in Mendham Township, Sunday

Release Date: May 08, 2020
A Message from Mayor Sarah Neibart

On Wednesday, Governor Murphy extended the public health emergency Executive Order (EO) by 30 days. During the Governor’s daily briefing, he stated that the extension is not because our social distancing efforts aren’t working and should not be interpreted by anyone to mean that the state is going to be tightening any of the restrictions currently in place. These declarations, unless extended, expire after 30 days and the conditions underpinning this declaration have not changed.

Many of you have emailed me over the last few weeks expressing opposition to the Governor’s EOs and hoping for a return back to normalcy.  I must admit that I share in your frustrations and sympathize as I read about the difficulties you are facing navigating these public and economic crises while being sheltered at home.

With Mother’s Day this weekend, unfortunately, there is a good chance that your celebrations will not look the same as years past. Many of you will not even get to spend the day with your mother; or your children with their grandmothers.

Over the last two months, mothers in our community have expanded their responsibilities to become teacher, entertainer, babysitter and cook, and in addition to these new roles, many of these moms are still working full-time. Every mother deserves their special day (along with a whole lot more).

In that spirit, our first responders wanted to do something special for our Mendham Township mothers. On Sunday, May 10th from 12:00pm - 2:00pm, the Police Department, Fire Department, and First Aid Squad will take part in a Mother’s Day Parade throughout town to show support for local mothers and mother-figures.

For those of you who are lucky enough to spend this weird and unusual Mother’s Day with your mother, please enjoy and take in every moment, because as we have all found out this year, none of us can predict what tomorrow may bring. Happy Mother’s Day, Mendham Township!

Sarah Neibart
Mayor, Mendham Township
